Postion Overview:

What? A Counselor-in-Training, or CIT, is a teen ages 14-17 who is interested in potentially becoming a lead counselor when they turn 18. This is a voluntary, leadership role. CITs will shadow and assist a lead counselor during one or both junior camp sessions in order to learn the responsibilities of being a counselor first-hand through experience. Alongside the lead counselors, CITs will help to ensure a high-quality, Christian youth camp session experience for junior campers ages 7-12. Being a CIT is a great way to begin getting your feet wet in the roles of camp ministry. Duties will include, but not be limited to, planning and youth management tasks, under the direction of lead Counselors and Camp Directors.

Who? Individuals who feel God is calling them to this role. Individuals will need to be Christian leaders who are willing to serve and direct junior campers in a biblical manner. CITs should have an interest in learning about becoming a future lead counselor and a passion for learning how to teach the next generation about the truth and power found in God’s Word.

Why? Counselor and CIT roles can give you practical skills and experience that lasts a lifetime. This role is good experience in preparing you for future job roles and a great first step to experiencing how a ministry role may be God’s calling for you. Counselors have the opportunity to build relationships that last a lifetime, serve and mentor others as God intended, and follow Christ in sharing your faith and reaching the next generation with the good news. A meaningful role that can bless you personally with lifelong memories.

Requirements? Agree to serve as part of a team of counselors and CITs. Ability to serve as a CIT during at least one full junior camp session, though multiple sessions is preferred. Ability to attend training provided prior to camping session start dates (training will provide activities, planning time, mentors, team building and resources all centered around preparing you to become a high-quality Christian camp counselor).

How? Review the position description for more detailed requirements and responsibilities and complete an application (resume submission for CITs is optional). It is our policy to hire for a minimum number of staff with consideration to training numbers, number of sessions and session needs, therefore, qualified candidates with the best availabilities under this consideration will receive positions first. If you are unsure if this is the fit for you or would like to discuss the position further, please contact the Youth & Children’s Ministry Director of the Missouri Valley Conference. *Application questions are attached separately below in order to allow question preparation prior to application completion.
