What is the CMT?

We are happy to report that the Camp Wilderness camping program is rapidly expanding. To accommodate for that growth we have opted to offer three weeks of camp this year; two weeks of Jr. Camp (July 7-12 & July 14-19) and one week of Sr. Camp (July 21-26). We have decided that the best way to serve our campers, and to maintain consistency throughout the three weeks of camp, is to hire a Camp Ministry Team (CMT).

Our CMT will consist of two males and two females who can serve as key leaders during all three of our camping sessions. Candidates for the CMT must be at least 18 years of age (by July 6th) and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Other qualifications include: being a strong spiritual leader, working well with others and being responsible. Previous summer camp experience would be helpful but is not required.

Ideally, those selected for the CMT, will be committing to three weeks at Camp Wilderness. If any of the positions cannot be filled for the full three week term we may accept applicants who can fill only portions of the term. No team member will be excused to attend outside activities during camp sessions. CMT members will be free to leave camp as they please in-between camping sessions. CMT members will be required to attend a mandatory training July 5-6 at Camp Wilderness. Look below for more information about specific responsibilities. Each CMT will be compensated with lodging, food and $150 per six day week (for a total of $450 for all three weeks). CMT members must provide their own transportation to get to our camp and back home.

We ask that anyone interested take time to pray about this amazing ministry opportunity. Applications must be submitted by May 1 and include a letter of recommendation from someone who can testify to the applicant’s spiritual maturity.

Responsibilities

More details will be discussed during our training session, but here’s a high-level list of responsibilities:

In all of the activities listed below, the Camp Ministry Team (CMT) is expected to take charge. CMT members, in some cases, will be responsible for running these activities.

  • Worship Time – Participate and be a good example of how we worship our Lord. Also, make sure the campers are behaving during evening services.

  • Welcome - Campers are scheduled to arrive after 4:00PM the first day of camp. During registration, the CMT members need to be near the cabins to welcome campers as they arrive and make sure they get settled in.

  • Cabin Devotions - CMT members will be responsible for cabin devotions each evening before lights out.

  • Games – CMT members will be responsible for planning and administering 1 hour of fun and inclusive games Sunday - Thursday night.

  • Campfire – CMT members will take turns sharing campfire devotions each evening Sunday – Thursday.

  • Morning Devotions – CMT members will take turns sharing a short morning devotion at the start of each day Monday – Thursday.

  • Quiet Time - Once each day campers will be sent to their cabins for quiet time. CMT members will be responsible for encouraging and assisting campers with their personal devotions during that time.

  • Cabins & Counseling – While other volunteer counselors will be on staff to assist, CMT members will be lead counselors in the cabins and during on and off-camp activities, responsible for ensuring a safe and clean environment, mentoring campers, encouraging them to learn how to develop a relationship with Jesus, and help answer questions with Biblical insight.
