Wilderness Chapel Workdays

We're in the final phase of our Wilderness Chapel Renovation Project! We still have quite a bit of work to do, so we're counting on the help of volunteers to complete it. Below you'll find the list of scheduled workdays, the tasks we'd like to accomplish, and ideas for what to bring. So check your schedule and the list of tasks and join us for the fun!

Tasks will be updated based on work completed on the previous workday so check the list often in case it changes.

Food will be provided for all workdays, and we'll work from 9:00AM - 2:00PM each scheduled day.

Work Completed:

Thank you to the 14 volunteers who attended our first workday today, and a special thanks to the ladies at Hilltop AC Church for providing lunch! We completed the following items below. It's looking great, so make sure you check out the progress photos!:

• Painted Ceiling and Ductwork in Chapel
• Painted Ceiling and Walls of Hallway and Restrooms in new addition
• Sealed lower portion of Chapel walls
• Finished installing insulation and wallboard along bottom of Chapel walls

Work Completed:

A BIG thanks to the 16 volunteers who attended today's workday! A great lunch was provided by the ladies at Brays AC Church, and was very appreciated. We completed the following items - Join us for our next workday on 4/28:

• Painted 1x3 trim that will be attached along Chapel ceiling
• Painted 2 coats of paint on Chapel Walls (make sure you check out the pics!)
• Painted Ceiling of Utility/Storage Closets
• Started receptacle installation around walls of Chapel

Work Completed:

Thank you to the 21 volunteers who came out today to participate in our work day! Thanks also to the ladies of Hilltop AC Church for the yummy lunch! We completed the following items today. Our next workday is scheduled for May 12th.

• Attached 1x3 trim around Chapel ceiling
• Finished trimming out the windows in the Chapel
• Painted ANOTHER coat of paint on the Chapel walls - this makes 3 coats!
• Painted the final (maybe) coat on Hallway and Restrooms
• Painted Walls of Utility/Storage Closets
• Painted platform with gray paint (looks awesome!)
• Finished installing water hydrant outside building
• Also, prior to today's workday, more receptacles and conduit were installed... thank you Jake!!

Work Completed:

We have toilets and sinks... and much more thanks to the 17 volunteers who participated in today's work day! Thank You! We also had an awesome lunch provided by the ladies of Brays AC Church. Join us for our next workday on May 26th. Here's what we completed:

• The utility pole was set on 5/11 which will allow us to connect when the electrical work is completed.
• Finished painting the walls of remaining Utility/Storage Closet
• Painted window trim
• Attached most of the ceiling and corner trim in hallway and restrooms
• Installed sinks and toilets (one more fixture left to install in the men's restroom)
• Attached most of the base molding
  

Work Completed:

We had a lower turnout today due to the Memorial Day weekend, but we really appreciate the 10 volunteers who participated in today's work day! We also had a great taco bar for lunch provided by the ladies of Hilltop AC Church. Here's what we were able to accomplish:

• Completed install of partitions in women's restroom
• General cleanup in the Chapel area
• Connected main water line and dug trench for electric service early in the week (thanks George & Harley!)
• Anticipating remaining electrical work to be completed this week

Work Completed:

Thank you to the 23 volunteers who attended today's work day, and Thank You to the ladies of Brays AC Church for providing a great lunch! We will have another work day this Saturday, June 9th to finish the many small tasks as well as complete general cleanup of the campground. Here's what we accomplished this past week and today:

• Connected Sewer Line
• Connected new power service and completed start-up of A/C & Heat pump
• Wired most of the electrical switches and receptacles
• Installed Restroom doors & hardware
• Installed flashing and brick mold on exterior of entry door
• Attached more ceiling and corner trim in hallway and restrooms
• Backfilled trench for electric service
• Backfilled trench for sewer line
• Applied scratch coat on most of exterior

Work Completed:

Thank You to the 9 volunteers who attended today's workday! We're getting so VERY close to completing the Wilderness Chapel renovations! We've scheduled another workday for June 16th, so be sure and join us so we can wrap things up before its first use on June 24th.

• Installed Mop Sink in utility closet
• Finished attaching remaining ceiling and corner trim in hallway and restrooms
• Finished attaching remaining base molding... until we ran out of material :)
• Painted restroom doors and trim
• Finished scratch coat above entrance (stone veneer will be installed later this summer)
• Installed wall board where old electric panel was located... and painted it
• Excavation and build-up of new roadway (check out the photos, but you have to see it in person!)
  

Work Completed:

A BIG THANKS to the 21 volunteers who participated in today's workday, and a big thanks to Hilltop AC Church for providing a great lunch! Today's activities bring us to the end of our work to ready Wilderness Chapel for use during this year's camping season! We still have the stone veneer to apply but we'll schedule workdays in the future to complete that work. Below is a list of the tasks we accomplished today. Thanks again to EVERYONE who helped us get this work done. God has truly blessed!

• Installed partitions in men's restroom
• Installed Utility Doors
• Installed remaining fixture in men's restroom
• Installed restroom mirrors/TP holders
• Installed drinking fountain
• Completed plumbing hookups
• Completed electrical updates
• Clean all chairs
• Cleared out all the left-over material in the Chapel and gave it a good cleaning.
  

Work Completed:

Thank You! To the 12 volunteers who attended today's workday. Unfortunately, our day was cut a little short due to some much needed rain, but we got a great start on applying the Stone Veneer. Make sure you take a look at the progress photos, it's really looking great! Also, a huge thanks to the ladies at Hilltop AC Church for providing a great lunch!

Work Completed:

Thank you to the 20 volunteers who attended today's workday. God provided beautiful weather and a great crew which enabled us to get ALL of the remaining stone veneer hung. The only thing left is to grout the joints, so we're scheduling a workday (hopefully the last for this project) next Saturday, September 15th. A big thanks also goes out to the ladies at Brays AC Church for providing a great lunch!

• Complete Installation of Stone Veneer on sidewalls and entrance bump-out

Work Completed:

Thank you to the 5 volunteers who attended today's workday! We had to deal with rain, but were still able to complete the grouting on the bump-out (a.k.a. entryway). We also removed the scaffolding and moved the surplus rock to the storage shed. A huge thanks to Paula Dye and Verla Hutchinson for providing a great lunch! Check out the photos.

We'll schedule future workdays to complete the grouting on the left and right side walls, so stay tuned!

Work Completed:

Thanks to the 14 volunteers who attended today's workday, we were able to complete much of the remaining grouting! One of the sidewalls was completed today, and we were able to get a good start on the last sidewall. We have just a few more hours of work ahead of us, and the Wilderness Chapel renovation will be complete! Also a big thanks to ladies at Hilltop for providing lunch! Check out the photos.

We hope to complete the remaining grouting during our Mission in Missouri retreat scheduled for November 9-11, 2012
